Woodard Curran - Gravity filter redevelopment - 92% Cost Saving

+

Background: The facility is a water treatment plant with groundwater supply wells. The water treatment process utilizes up flow clarifiers with garnet media. Coagulated organics are removed as the water flows upwards through the clarifier media causing manganese sludge to build up inside the filter nozzles and media. Problem: The nozzles inside the clarifiers are becoming plugged up by sludge that’s being removed during the coagulation process. The sludge contains a high concentration of organic manganese, thus the black color. Consequences: 60% decline of influent flow rate on both clarifiers. 2,080 GPM is now 800 GPM and the PRV (pressure release valves) for the blowers are being set off if trying to exceed 800 GPM. This drastically reduces the plant’s ability to meet peak demand in Ashland and Hopkinton. 33% increase in pressure when the clarifier is online during process. Normal should be 6 PSI after backwash, currently at 8 PSI. Uneven blanket of air across the floor during air scour process ejecting through the nozzles. Dead zones in media as the air scour is not breaking up floc/sludge buildup symmetrically. Possibility of blowing up the clarifier floor during an air scour due to high pressure consolidated to one spot. Post Pantonite Treatment: Increased productivity - Improved water quality - Minimal downtime (2 -3 day process). Flow rate doubled from 643 GPM to 1,206 GPM Savings: Total cost $16,020 for 3 days against a forecast $221,810 and weeks long project replacing nozzles. Overall a 92% saving.

GREENVILLE, WISCONSIN #3 BEDROCK WELL REDEVELOPMENT

+

Water Well Solutions was contracted to redevelop Greenville Wisconsin's # 3 Municipal Well. They employed a combination of enhanced chemical cleaning, using Pantonite PM77 and their HY-RIP well rehabilitation process to physically inject the PM77 into the geological formation to enhance the effectiveness of the treatment. This unique combination of enhanced well redevelopment employing PM77 and the HY-RIP process shows the effectiveness of this treatment technology for the redevelopment of a heavily impacted, borehole constructed high yielding municipal well.

WESTFIELD, IOWA TANK CLEANING DEMONSTRATION PROJECT

+

Panton McLeod, Americas supervised the tank cleaning of a 40,000 gallon, steel, ground level storage tank in Westfield, Iowa, conducted by Maguire Iron, Co. The tank cleaning with Pantonite PM88 was effective and efficient with minimal down-time. No interior scaffolding or ladders were necessary for the complete cleaning of this tank.

LITTLETON MA WATER DEPARTMENT WELL REDEVELOPMENT

+

The use of a blend of Muriatic and Hydroxyacetic acids lost its effectiveness, prompting the Department to seek alternating redevelopment methods. Results of AquaFreed and Pantonite treatments show equal or better performance with Pantonite, at a reduced cost and impact to the physical infrastructure of the well.

CHATHAM, MA IN SITU WELL REDEVELOPMENT

+

Maher Services, Inc. of North Reading, Massachusetts was contracted to conduct in-situ redevelopment of a high yielding well in Chatham, MA, removing encrusted iron, manganese and biofilm from the well screen and adjacent gravel packed material, resulting in a 55% increase in specific capacity.

KMCI TANK CLEANING, PLYMOUTH, WI

+

In Plymouth, WI, a tank with accumulated iron and manganese oxides was cleaned using Pantonite PM88. The process involved a power wash, enhanced chemical cleaning, and a final disinfection with Sodium Hypochlorite. Notably, Pantonite completed the entire project efficiently within one day, both on-time and under budget.

WESTFORD, MA WATER DEPARTMENT IN SITU REDEVELOPMENT

+

In Situ redevelopment is a method by which chemical redevelopment is undertaken without the removal of the well pump and other bore hole appurtenances. It is a viable method at redeveloping a well where down time and/or costs are of the essence and the need for additional water is paramount to get through the summer heavy pumping season. Using a unique combination of in Situ well redevelopment employing Pantonite PM77 and the Nitro Pulse process resulted in close to a 5 fold increase in specific capacity from the pre-redevelopment yield and an increase in pumping capacity of over 300%.
